In honor of World Environment Day, Mukonka Primary School came alive with environmental action and creativity, all under this year’s theme: “Ending Plastic Pollution.”
To kick off the celebration, learners participated in a tree planting exercise, showing their commitment to a greener future. The activity encouraged pupils to take real action in caring for their environment while learning the importance of trees in fighting climate change.
The main event was filled with excitement as pupils presented traditional dances, sketches, and songs—all crafted to highlight the dangers of plastic pollution and the importance of sustainable living. The performances were not only entertaining but educational, leaving the audience with a lasting message about protecting the planet.
Mukonka Primary was proud to host several supporting partners, including:
-
BioCarbon Partners
-
Zambia Civic Education Association
-
Mphanshya Secondary Nature Conservancy Club
These partners helped make the day even more impactful by encouraging learners to continue their role as young environmental champions.
This celebration reminded everyone that even small actions—like planting a tree or saying no to plastic—can make a big difference. Mukonka Primary stands proud as a school leading the way in environmental awareness and community action.
So here’s a question for all of us to think about: How much plastic did you use today—and could you have avoided it?
