2nd June 2024

Yesterday, Lusaka Province Minister Hon. Sheal Mulyata officially officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a modern market shelter in Chitemalesa, Rufunsa District. The transformative project, valued at K1.1 million, is being implemented under the Zambia Devolution Support Program (ZDSP).

This investment is part of the broader support received by Rufunsa District in 2024, which amounts to K2.6 million. Of this, K1.5 million has been allocated for the construction of a community radio station, while K1.1 million is dedicated to the Chitemalesa market project.

In her remarks, Hon. Mulyata emphasized the significance of this development for the local trading community.

“For many years, the traders of Chitemalesa have operated under challenging and undignified conditions. But today, we are breaking barriers of neglect, discomfort, and limitation – all thanks to the Zambia Devolution Support Program,” she stated.

This project marks a critical step towards improving the livelihoods and working conditions of local traders, promoting economic activity, and enhancing service delivery at the grassroots level.

Also in attendance were District Commissioner Richard J. Mabena, Council Chairperson Kennedy Mailon, Area Ward Councillor Andrew Mutelo, and Council Secretary Dr. Bishop Venture Kafula, along with several other stakeholders who came to show their support for this community-driven initiative.

This groundbreaking is more than just the start of construction – it’s a symbol of progress, empowerment, and a brighter future for the people of Chitemalesa.
